Website Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care
Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.
A dedicated team of researchers and clinicians at Waypoint has secured $2.3 million in funding through Ontario’s Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence to establish the Mental Health Anti-Violence Hub for Empowerment, Advocacy, Recovery, and Trauma Support (MHAV-HEARTS). This initiative was created to address critical gaps in mental health services for individuals affected by gender-based violence (GBV). In collaboration with key agencies across Central Ontario and the province, MHAV-HEARTS will become Canada’s first mental health hub focused specifically on GBV, working to close a significant service gap through innovation, advocacy, and partnership.
As part of this important initiative, we are seeking a temporary part-time Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) – WRI to bring advanced practice expertise in mental health and trauma-informed care to the MHAV-HEARTS team. The CNS will play a pivotal role in improving care for those impacted by GBV, contributing to the development of evidence-informed programs and standards while fostering meaningful partnerships with key organizations across the province. This role will support clinical practice improvements, mentor and educate healthcare providers, and provide leadership that drives systemic change in how GBV-related mental health services are delivered.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative, province-wide initiative aimed at empowering survivors, building capacity within the system, and enhancing recovery through specialized, coordinated care.
